Personally, i’m not a fan of them but i know a lot of people are

Well I don’t know. Probably like most things it would just take some getting used to. I have been on a few other forums where they are used & I know the first couple of times I saw them I was confused but I can see where they could be a benefit.

To bad they don’t give you the option to switch the thread from nested view to flat view (or whatever it is called when ther replies are in the order of when they were posted) and back again.

I think it makes it easier to understand what the reply is referring to. What does it look like if someone replies to a comment on page 3 of a 10 page topic? Is it confusing to find the new post?

It help to see which post it reply to.

I have had trouble sometimes telling what is being replied to. I think this may be a good option.

Doesn’t help to find newest reply.

“Top” got confusing.

“Old” is nice but long reply might kill it.

Replying to very old post might get lost in “Old”.

:face_with_spiral_eyes:

they all got their own problems.

I kind of prefer the full chronological view. Nested is just too easy to miss stuff. I’m not sure if this is a thing with discourse, but I think my favorite layout is chronological, but when someone clicks “reply” on a specific post, it puts “In reply to [user]” at the top of their post, and clicking on that text actually takes you to the post referenced.

Quoting someone is also currently a little bit non-intuitive. It’s super easy to do once you know, but there’s definitely a few times I’ve looked around for a “quote” button for a while before I give up and select the text to copy, only to then remember that the option to quote pops up right there when you select text. I know… PEBCAK error.

this is half the reason i stay off reddit. to my feeble mind, it gets too jumbled with replies within replies within replies

After less than a day, I’m liking nested less and less. I appreciate the continuity it creates, but the tradeoff in readability isn’t worth it.

Does everyone see the toggle to switch between them? Or is it just me because I’m admin?
