Weldment cutlist and feature library

Is there a way to import in a part file, together with a library feature its custom properties to show them in the part weldment cutlist?

I made a plate, and set its description property in a feature library file (sldlfp) then I make a part file, drag the sldlfp in, but all the properties are blank and I need to fill them manually.

Which is kind of annoying.

Am I missing something?

You probably want to rethink how you are doing this. I created weldment profile files for plate, bar and rod, each with a single configuration. The dimensions were simple: 1 x 4 for the plate, 1 x 2 for the bar and 1" diameter for the rod. After I insert a new structural member using one of these profiles, I edit the sketch of the feature to give it the proper dimensions. These dimensions can be linked to custom properties to fill out LENGTH/WIDTH/THICKNESS cut list columns, or combined into a single description custom property.

If you plate has special features, you may want to make the features library features that you add to the basic plate body after you’ve added it as a structural member.

Thank you for the comment. it is not a simple plate in the real case, I used it as a dummy example for the concept.

We have an old workflow for annoying things like pipes with tapered threads on their ends we use in our weldment parts, things like nipples, welded flanges you happen to use in vessels once in a while, for drains, instruments, or other welded stuff.

Welding profiles are ok, but then you must add the holes and threads later as an additional operation while the library feature is a complete collection ready to be used, with correct threads, holes etc.

it seems like a (somehow) logical limitation and the total mess of SW properties does not help, let alone that they were “upgraded” around 2018 and some syntax for linking their values changed too, so I was wondering if it was more a library setup issue, a syntax issue or a plain limitation (btw the help is completely useless, the custom properties are not even mentioned in the library limitations paragraph)

Unfortunately we have many parts that should be handled as a weldment assembly, but instead they are modeled as multybody parts because it is faster to do it that way than switching to an assy, modify a standard component with a customized length, drag it in, mate… especially when you are already making the part drawing and you notice you need to add that kind of simple components midway.

I asked the same to my VAR: they asked me to explain them how to create a library feature… ?:face_with_monocle:

I am not joking.

I add my weldments to an assembly and then add plates, end caps, ect. To me it was to hard to to get the cut list BOM to show up correctly with anything other then tubes/pipes. In an assembly drawing BOM you can check the detailed cut list box and use indented numbering if you want to detail each member. I do a separate drawing of just the weldment. This works good for our workflow and numbering.

Ability to import custom properties from a Library Feature when the feature is added to a model.

According to SW support it was an ER related to SPR542271, but since SPR system was dropped in to the oblivion, the only way they propose to vote for it is to make a thread in the SWAMP…
