PowerMill Tips&Tricks

I thought it would always be a good idea to share our small but very useful PowerMill tricks here. I’m sharing one that has worked very well for me, which I got from the old Tips & Tricks section of the Autodesk forum.

Delete Bad Surfaces Auto

UNDRAW LEVEL ALL
DRAW LEVEL “Bad Surfaces”
EDIT LEVEL “Bad Surfaces” SELECT ALL
DELETE MODEL SELECTED
DELETE LEVEL “Bad Surfaces”
DRAW LEVEL ALL

Great idea.

this one goes back to the delcam forum, some user called NRGworks posted this & it was a game changer for me.

When in curve editor (boundary or pattern) sketching a rectangle, if the second point falls out of the same plane as the first point, hold ctrl when positioning the second point and that’ll keep it on the same plane as point 1

I’d like to add to this one.

If you generate a block as type Cylinder around the piece, it will detect hidden Bad Surfaces as well that 2D programs will catch later on.

i have a generic macro on the ribbon, and i keep it open in my text editor for stuff that i do often enough, but with small differences. i change the name of the function i want to call in the main() and if anything needs changing, i fix it in the respective method.

I have the exact same thing lol. Change the one I need to Main and use ALT + 5 to execute it.

great minds think alike!!

Good morning, I am trying to figure out how to add 3/8” and 1/64” cutters to my tool data base in powermill. How do I go about doing this using my same modeled tool holder and extension? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Activate a tool that has the holder you want to save, then go to the holder tab and save the holder. Personally, i keep everything in my c:/dcam/pmill4 folder. Make a folder for Holders & Extensions, save the holder/extension there.

now create your new tool. import the shank/holder using the folder next to the disk. After that you can add it to the tool database. dont worry about the stock material setting.,.. I’m assuming you have a database set up?
