Solid Edge 2026 is here

Here is 30min video about few enhancements:

Tab & Slot and multi edge flange trim, finally!!

And much more. This is a small snippet!

Is it me, or are these videos getting shorter every release?

Did the average attention span of people shrink that much?

Anyway, looking forward to playing with, what’s the new name, ‘Designcenter Solid Edge 2026’,

once the Community Edition is released (that’s still a thing, right, it wasn’t killed-off?).

I’d say it’s more a question of product maturity. Innovation often reaches limits and take a certain time before exceeding these limits by developping new ideas and brainstorming on them.

Could some explain the naming scheme is it Solid edge X or Solid edge 2026?

They must trading marketing employees with Dassault, “Designcenter Solid Edge 2026” naming is nearly as bad as “SOLIDWORKS Design Standard Augmented”.

Community/Student will be there, but may take a few weeks as it doesn’t get packaged until after the commercial package is released.

Apparently both NX and Solid Edge now have “Designcenter” as a prefix to show that they are part of the same Design ecosystem.

Solid Edge X 2026 and Solid Edge 2026 are the same product but are just licensed and packaged differently.

The “X” version is a named user and cloud licensed subscription, has the CoPilot help assistant, and I believe an automatic updater.

The non-“X” version is licensed as floating concurrent or node locked, no CoPilot, and does not auto-update.

License levels between them are labeled differently but are basically the same.

Wait, so subscription floating license and paying for the cloud version is still optional?

Yes, and perpetual license is optional yet.

This interview with Dan lights few interesting things:

Yes, perfect. I have a note. Solid Edge X user has opportunity to use Teamcenter X Essentials (“for free”) what is cloud based PDM solution.

That’s definitely a step up from Share and could be a significant advantage.

Solid Edge X is subscription only?

Yes, it is only subscription.

So much like the “SolidWorks Connected” subscription, not really free, just baked into the subscription pricing. Little cheaper than SolidWorks though ($2676 vs $2820)

Is solid edge 2026 subscription only?

No. Solid Edge X is subscription only and named user also. It requires a cloud login to activate.

Solid Edge can be licensed perpetually or by yearly lease (subscription), but when buying, sales folks will lead with and push the subscription lease as if perpetual doesn’t exist. You have to ask for it. Either way, it can still be node locked or floating concurrent.
