Simple load on a hole

I have a simple bar that I want to add a vertical force to from a hole location

I am new to simulation and can’t figure out how to add a straight pull force, if I select the hole face it wants to put it either outward or inward around the hole. The bottom hole is fixed.

Change from “Normal” to "Selected Direction.
Then pick a face normal to that direction.
Finally, in the “Force” area, click the 3rd box down and enter the desired force.

Thanks, I have only done a few simulations so far most have had flat surfaces to pick from to apply the loads.

Ultimately the part will pivot on both ends, but I want to load the bar to see what kind of weight it can take.

FWIW, unless your material is a lot thicker than I think it is, I would be a little concerned with the result of the simulation not matching reality because the part will fail in a sort of buckling mode a lot quicker than it will purely at a “cross section”. Maybe consider loading it slightly off-axis because in real life it’ll be unlikely to be a “pure” vertical load.

it’s a pivot arm on a door the rotates open verticly

I have to make changes to the size/shape of the existing part, so I am using the static load simulation to compare the new one back to the original to make sure it’s similar in deflection.

Don’t fix the holes.
Add a pin and fix the pin.
Also apply load to a pin in the hole.
