Anyone have any tricks for getting old 2D text, non table BOM, from a DWG into Excel?
You mean AutoCAD DWG file? Check AutoDesk section of the forum?
I recommend trying “Snag it” for this.

You can still get a perpetual license for $63 although I think they are going subscription only with the next version . Well worth it for general screen grabs and markup.
It has a function called “Grab Text”. I took a screen grab of a table from a drawing, then in the Snag-It editor, select “Grab Text”

It then opens another window with the table and text. Select Copy All…
Then paste into Excel
From there you can cut and paste from Excel to a SolidWorks General table if you want it there in SolidWorks instead. I tried copy / paste from the Snag-It grab text but it wouldn’t paste into a SolidWorks table. So you must go the Excel route first.
Nice, I’ll take a look and see if I can…snag it…see what I did there.
Thank You
I saw I could do that in AutoCAD…unfortunately I don’t have an AutoCAD license at the moment. This is actually in Draftsight.
Draftsight has an API
