I have just finished building my first 3D printer ever, Prusa i3 MK3S+, and have printed some stuff over the week. Many prints overnight.
During the night time, I sleep in the next room, so there is one door between. When normal layers are printed, I cannot hear a thing, but then, a sudden movement of the printing head or bed.. and then silent again… You know “nnnnnnnnn nnnnnn nnnnn RRRRRRRRRRR nnnnn nnnn”
I tend to wake up when the printer does those non-printing fast moves, even when it is in “quiet mode”.
So the question is, has anyone tried to make your printers quieter by modifying the print settings in PrusaSlicer? Is it as easy as changing the “Speed for non-printing moves” to match one of those numbers above, but which?
I don’t have experience of my own, but know that ppl sometimes build housing around their 3D-printer to suppress the noice and secondly to stabilize the atmosphere for printing and apply ventilation.
My setup:
The noise dampers and a heavy stone slab (in my case it is just two large tiles):

This system reduces the noise from the vibration.
I use such a system for both Upgraded Prusa i3 3MK2.5S and Snapmaker 2 A350T. Also, I would recommend purchasing an enclosure for Prusa i3 MK3S+ It is their new product, launched recently.
Probably you’re hearing the fast short move when printing top/bottom layers.
Printer get noisy when doing sharp turn. Top skin are all 180 short prints.
There is YouTube about dampening.
It not only affect noise but also print quality. If I remember correctly, it’s opposite to what we think.
