Moving a drawing office from Autocad LT to Solidedge

Hi And taking over a drawing office and I have to move them to 3d sorfware package, as there are hardly any users of LT and it is not brilliant from a document managment point of view. It is a fresh start essentially as the privious engineer is retiring.

I have decided from my vast experiance of using SW SE and inventor and Catia, to go with SE as it just a better package for what the business does frames sheet metal machinery design, my only concern is justifying the high start up cost of a license and a workstation. And LT is cheap and can run on a low powered machine. As it will take a while to build up a library of 3d models and drawings.

My main take is that for the standard range I could create one model and use family or parts to generate the rest of the range of products.

And or the bespoke products we can create a more detailed drawing pack and the bom will give a better idea of costs of the product.

That sounds like a lot of fun. Just keep things simple and don’t make the library over complicated. Training and daily or at a min of weekly meetings on roadblocks, and problems with the software or computers would be a great thing to have. Along with a Tip of the day no matter how simple it is. Let the users announce it to the group and if you want to document them.
