We’ve a customer wanting to supply us with Microstation CAD models. Would like to know what are the best file types that it can export for use in a SolidWorks environment.
Would appreciate any insight from those that have delved into this end of the waters.
I wish I could help, but I’ve only dealt with Microstation going in the opposite direction. I work with quite a few state DoT’s that use it, and I save my SW drawings as .dwg’s, which they can open and work with.
Appreciate you ringing in on this. I’ve read that it’s possible for Microstation to export the old DXF, DWG, SAT(ACIS), STEP, and STP formats, but can’t confirm it.
Been hoping not to have to recreate their layouts to work out all the geometry.
Check this page.
There’s a list of all possible export/import file types, along the version of Microstation.
That is a pretty good reference and I greatly appreciate you posting it here.
I always ask our clients if they can import/export Parasolid (*.x_t, *.x_b), since it is the fastest way for SOLIDWORKS to Export. It looks like Microstation can also import Parasolid (*.x_t), and also export.
