How to stop changing fastener length when editing exploded view?

Hate doing exploded views, but here I am. I find it convenient that you can select an item in the graphics area and tweak the explode distance. But - do that to a fastener, and it changes the fastener length instead. Any way to stop that behavior? Instant 3D is off.

I’m on SW2018 (still).

Are you using toolbox fasteners?
