I have been asked by a local machinist if on the DXF files of our SW drawings if the dimensions can be and notes can be separated onto a different layer from the drawing views?
i have tried setting this in drawing properties for all views setting to layer 0 and and resaving the drawing.

and for dimensions and notes etc setting to layer Red.
When I open the dxf in edrawings there is nothing on layer 0 and no layer Red.
I clearly don’t know what I am doing here. I would appreciate any advice.
We are using DDM as our PDM system so the DXFs are automatically produced on save.
Do a “Save as” on your drawing and change the filetype to DWG or DXF, then select “Options”.

Create layers, map entities, save it to the location defined in the options dialogue in the above pic (Step 4).
Once you get it all set, you can check the box in options “Don’t show mapping on each save” so it just saves and no longer shows the mapping box. Leave it unchecked though it you plan to have more than one mapping file to switch between.
Thank you. That is really helpful. I have it basically working. I shall experiment some more with the setup over the weekend and probably come back with a couple of questions.
