We hire a design work studio, and design a product prototype for us. They sent a step file to us. We need to 3D print this product prototype for testing. We plan to 3D print it with PLA filament.
Should we need to ask they offer the STL file too？

What 3D printer and Slicer?
Bambu Labs slicer takes Step as well as stl, obj ans others.
it is free so you could take in the step and them save an stl out if needed.

I’ll take the STEP and convert to STL myself.
STEP file is 100% accurate.
STL is always less then 100%, it’s an estimate.
At low resolution, circle became polygon.
You can open STEP in CAD and modify it.
Not much you can do with STL.
