Commodore is back

Apparently a group of enthusiasts recently bought all the commodore brands, and they are going to launch the commodore 64 “ultimate" at like 299$

btw for that price I could buy a used HP workstation. At home I have a HP Z230 upgraded here and there that is still going strong.

Still I had a C64 my father bought in the 80s with tapes and cartridges. Used until the late 90s until it broke. I did some stuff in BASIC 2.0 and a lot of memories.

I was surfing and chatting on IRC channels using my Commodore 128D with a 1200 baud modem until about 1995. Good times.

I started using the internet around 1998 with windows95.

I had some friends using american BBS, at the time it sounded like black magic

In 1988 I was co-oping at GTRI. I was a member of several Usenet news groups. Almost 40 years later and “Forums” are serving the same purpose, and pretty similar in function. IIRC, it was only accessible through a UNIX terminal.

I had a 128 too. Not sure what happened to it. It would be sweet if it was still hanging out in a box at my parent’s house.

I learned how to execute programs on the C64 before I learned how to read. Load”*”,8

I still have the one my dad purchased. The disk drive no longer works, so I can only use the two cartridges that came with it. I believe if I solder on new capacitors I can get it going again. Maybe sometime this winter. I’m not sure those 5.25” floppies still have readable data, but we can find out.

My first programming was done on a C64 as well, learned by reading the user manual that came with it. It was ring bound and looked a lot like this one if I remember. C64 Programmers Ref

I’m guessing I was in 6th grade maybe 7th.

Didn’t get a Commodore.

Got an Apple ][ +.

Programmed a birthday card on 5.25 in AppleSoft.

Dad got a few books with it but they all for different computers. Only one was for Apple.

Still read through them and learn. I believe I still got the green AppleSoft book.
