Can Solidworks work with 3D scanner?

Yes and no.

Every time I’ve scanned a part, it is only for reference as I am modeling the parts.

In order to take the scans and have them make a manifold solid, it requires a fairly high resolution scan, and manipulation of the scan in other software.

At least that’s been my experience. Maybe one of the SW guru’s will come along and educate us both.

To do any manipulation of the scan data you have to have ScanTo3d, which is part of the top level of SW. And it’s a miserable piece of software to work with. I mostly only use it to lay curves over the points at planes. If you already have the software and your time isn’t worth much, give it a try. Otherwise, there are other tools that will help you get better solids from scan data much faster.

I’ve had some success with ScanTo3D. In some ways, it’s better than what NX has to offer. Still very limited, though.

Nothing is better than GeoMagic. If you process scans on a regular basis, that is the tool you want.
