CAD Family Question

Using 2024 SP5
When using ‘Make Assembly from Part’ or ‘Form New Subassembly’ the new assembly uses Cad Family but if I use my assembly template I get configurations. How to do I get the former to use configurations like Mr. Hirschtick intended.

I went back and forth on this issue with my VAR for some time - but I have basically had to settle for work arounds rather than getting any real fix.

I tried a few different things, maybe they’ll help you out, but I can’t promise it will fix it either..

Try using these setting.. I do think lightweight components have some effect on this issue.

I also believe this entire issue is a result of the development of “Solidworks Ultimate.” They are pitching it as a “blend” of solidworks desktop and cloud based tools, so it makes sense to me that something is getting crossed up between the two platforms, merging them in an unintended manner.

Its a nuisance I have spent way too many hours trying to avoid, that’s for sure.

Not the OP, but from my understanding that workaround was supposed to address one of the causes that was basically the lightweight model not handled properly with the “new” configuration architecture.

As you mentioned SW devs are clearly pushing this kind of unwanted issues on us while merging the CATIA based 3d experience SW with the Desktop SW.

Problem ‘solved’

Installed 2025 SP3 and still had the issue.

Tried another cpu, no problem.

Copied my settings to the other cpu, problem, so the issue was in my settings.

My assemblies Default Templates setting was: ~Blank_Assy_Template.asmdot

Once I pointed the assembly to my default assembly template, problem solved. (The parts and drawings locations were already set correctly.)
