Here’s my suggestion:

Dropping mine here… :nerd:
Just a rough sketch at the moment.

Update:

  • Upload a higher resolution version (see attachment)
  • Adjust lighting to make side edge more visible
  • Font use: OpenSans (It should be under Apache License 2.0, should it should not face any copyright infringement…)
  • Logo created using SOLIDWORKS and Powerpoint

Looks great!

We’ll start voting on April 21, so ~2.5 weeks to go!

Made some updates in the previous reply, so i am done

You’ve got to do better than this to win eternal glory in the CADForum logo contest. Still a pretty low bar. Entries due by April 21, when we’ll start a poll. Gloating starts for one lucky individual on April 26.

We don’t have any prizes aside from eternal glory right now, but that might change. Still, eternal glory in a bunch of over achievers like we have here is pretty good!

@matt, you mean you want me to enter a serious entry?

Cause I can do this all day.

I tried downloading Photoshop this weekend but it seems it’s a lot harder to get then it was 10 years ago, besides Gimp is there any other software that’s free that I could use..?

That kinda wins it in my book

I just seen this thread this morning, so here is my entry “Bed Of Nails” which was done using SolidWorks, this one is also Dave Bear’s favorite SW Art, so anyone that remembers the Dave Bear story will recall that they applied a Skin on his laptop using the “Bed Of Nails” picture.

I can supply a copy of the original pc, it’s rather large, but it can be resized to whatever you need.

Amazing…

Some suggestion:
It will be even more amazing if the pic provide some indication that it is done using CAD as i think this will make it serve better as our CAD forum logo..
My thought is that if you still have the original model, maybe you can try render two view (full color like the pic, wireframe/mesh/hidden-line view), cut them in half and combine them

I love your idea and your example. You should be in Marketing! How are you a lieing?

Is there a renderer that does this with the wireframe / shaded gradient?

Not quite free but fairly inexpensive and currently 50% off ($25) is Affinity Photo. It does 90% of what Photoshop does and you get a perpetual license that you only upgrade when you want. Patches are released monthly and there is a store to purchase brushes, textures, etc.

Affinity Photo = Photoshop
Affinity Designer = Illustrator
Affinity Publisher = InDesign

Will give it a look! Sounds interesting!

So I tried giving it a shot this weekend but I’m just unable to put up something that fits my taste because, well it’s been so long since I did “artsy” stuff with Photoshop, and I’m using Gimp rather then photoshop. I still haven’t tried what Mr. Capriotti told me about but I might next weekend. WIth the nice weather coming back my weekends are getting busier..

..maybe Matt needs a pierced ear with a lure?

Zhen,.. that’s pretty good!

Remember we start voting on images tomorrow, so get your entry in tonight. For those of you on the other side of the world, I’m not sure if you’re ahead of us or behind us, so we’ll play that one by ear. Tomorrow +/- a day or so.

Did you ever have any luck fixing the image not showing issue? I’m still getting the broken links, just wondering if it’s just me.

This is my submission:
