I come to know Windows 11 has been released. Does anyone using it with SWX?
I thought it wasn’t being released until the end of the year.
First, make sure you have TPM.
although, it’s a bit (or byte?) soon, no?,.. why would you want to jump onto it? ..are there known benefits?
imho, wait a 6mos to a year.
Windows 11 has not been released, it has been announced.
Will be released later this year.
So…all these people are this anxious to get screwed again?
I got a bridge in Omaha to sell…
Where in Omaha might this bridge be?
Go to the nearest Walmart, buy several gift cards, give me the numbers, and then I’ll tell you.
Due to sponsorship arrangements my previous company was forced to adopt Windows 10 in its first year of release. It was a complete disaster. We spent most of the first 6 months of that season trying to get all of our engineering tools to work. Welcome to the new world of software, where your customers do your beta testing for you.
This isn’t new … this is the only Solidworks does it. LOL
Here’s a compressed summary for you. Mysteries are being resolved. Please wait.
This. Also,
You. Do. Not. Need. To. Make. A. Decision. About. This. Now.
Windows 10 will be supported, in current schedule, until 2025.
It will be freely available to upgrade supported devices, like a fancy feature upgrade. More like Windows 10 originally was, with a compatibility checker and downloaded installer package. For SWx, there will surely be supported versions in the future and not now, just like any other OS cycle change.
The big kicker for most cases appears to be the new hardware requirements. The increases to minimum CPU clock speed, RAM, and drive size are unremarkable to most existing machines. THERE ARE TWO SERIOUS LIMITATIONS in hardware for Windows 11 compatibility. Your device must have a Trusted Platform Module chip, above a certain version. Your CPU must also be within a vague newer generation. MS is actively bungling the clarification of internal contradictions, which makes fact more difficult to discern from mixed guidance.
For example, right now you can buy a brand new $5000 Surface Pro directly from Microsoft, and its earlier CPU generation will prevent it from receiving the release of Windows 11. Seriously.
OTOH, new PCs released this year will meet the new requirements. New PC’s released next year and the year after that will meet the requirements. You and I will eventually go through a hardware cycle, and the new OS cycle will apply then. Tools were not meant to remain sharp forever, even if you misunderstood manufacturers support schedules and personally maintain unfounded expectations of eternal usefulness.
If anyone cares, Ed Bott has written very well about this, and continues to try to get to the bottom of it.
EDIT to add:
“Windows 11 is primarily a user experience update. Nothing is being introduced along the lines of new APIs or SDKs that would benefit next-generation apps that would compel one to buy a new system.” - Jason Perlow
Therefore, I believe that SWx would be unaffected. Paul may be able to tell us soon.
Also, MS has apologized for the confusion. They are also promising to use Insider Testing to test expanding its applicable CPU list.
Well, shiver me timbers,.. I’ve got it!?
hmm,.. I’ve been part of Windows Beta testing for >1yr (mainly because I found/reported some Explorer issues) and looks like they gave it to me?
WTH!? Look at the images attached… It says I have it but,.. it’s not able to have it??.. Gotta Luv Tech!
LOL non-certified CPU.
Hey!! They changed the icon colors! That’s reason enough to change.
Hang on, that sounds familiar…
Is it me or does the bar at the bottom look like a ripoff of Apple?
Wouldn’t be the first time…

Stop worry if SW will run in Windows 11.
Worry if your computer could run Windows 11.
A bit (or byte?)
It actually reminds me the small Linux Distro’s using a (applish) custom desktop.. like,.. XFCE Desktop Environment.
Yeah good point, give it a small fade-out at the top and it’s Linux
.. it seems to work fine.. running SW2019.
Maybe I have the cosmetic/carrot stick version,.. to entice me into buying the real thing?
I was using something similar for Windows XP so it looks like Mac.
