What do you think about SOLIDWORKS Dark Mode?

Just wondering how many of us here is using SOLIDWORKS Dark Mode…

I personally find the Dark Mode is a bit “Lacking”
I am unable to properly put it in word but:
→ Some of the feature button and feature text dont look sharp enough..
→ A lot of window is not put into dark mode, eg: Welcome, system setting, new document window, etc

→ It feel rather awkward to use dark mode with the default background
→ The input text box has a bad contrast in my opinion..

I had tried using Dark Mode for 1 day and my eyes feel much more tired than usual…

I notice more people using different color schemes than in the past. I used to love to set up color schemes. But with the writing I do, I try to keep the interface as stock as possible. White background fits better with documents and web pages. I used to run autocad with a black background, but SW initially resisted the pressure to look like autocad. By now I think they’ve won the right to do whatever they want.

I think I prefer a light gray transition background, so that nothing ever gets 100% washed out. I do turn down the brightness of my screens and turn up the contrast. I haven’t had a big problem with eye strain.

It gives stark contradictory color for buttons and background. Which enable easy to identify buttons. I like it very much.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) suggests contradictory color for buttons and background of a control panel for nuclear plants for safe operation.

I don’t even like dark mode on websites, and sure don’t want it on SW.

I agree that SW dark mode is lacking stuff. I have being using it for quite some time; also with a dark background, retro icons and lighter color for planes and line for contrast. It is not so bad, but feels that they didn’t care about it when doing.
I use dark mode everywhere when it is available, this forum included.

I wish I could save the setting tho

I use dark mode on almost everything that I can. Like others have said, it’s a bit lacking in some places when you have a text box or selection box that is stark white against all other dark colors. You can see the difference between a true dark theme from my add-in on the right vs. the unfinished dark theme on the left from SW.

I hope they get it finished and polished up but I don’t have much faith. And (if they haven’t yet) introduce a dark theme to the PDM window in Windows Explorer to match the OS theme that’s selected.

Yes, I mistyped “widget” and am too lazy to fix it…

Dark mode in Solidworks is like lots of things in Solidworks, namely half baked, unfinished, lacking QC and consistency.

But they have it! I’m sure it looked good in a “Whats new in Solidworks xx” once and that’s all that matters.

SE has multiple color modes. And they work. :stuck_out_tongue:

Unless you’re going to come manage my transition from SW to SE, please stop reminding me of how much better things could be. :imp:

Sorry…but…

It’s the icons, they put a strange glow around them making them look washed out. They should’ve redrawn them for darker backgrounds, but that takes more time. and maintenance.
