Welcome!

I just want to say how nice it is not to have to edit a post to get it past the moderator.

Guys, i wasnt here for couple days only (IT policy) , but i managed to persuade them :stuck_out_tongue:
And what i saw here is that this forum exploded!! So much new posts , members , topics
WOW

Here’s a chart showing the difference between this forum and 3D SWYM. I’m not sure that the 3D SWYM members are correct but it still gives a good illustration of the difference.

Do they have a member counter over there? It sounds too transparent for that sort of group.

The SolidWorks community there show 4794 members that I guess they imported. But who can tell, you can’t search the list and scrolling thru it is futile as like everything else there, it’s a ginormous display of icons. They think everyone communicates on their phone I guess.

Here’s https://forum.solidworks.com/thread/247614?messageTarget=all&start=850&mode=comments where I got the 97 from.

Welcome to the dark side!

Alex, you can change that.

I was refering to the undesired offspring that came from the SW Forums migrating to 3DSWamp. I know about the layout colors :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s a matter of perspective.

Hey matt, couple ideas.

:black_circle: Collapsable quotes would be a great addition to the forums. Quoting posts sometimes takes a lot of space and sometimes even forces some snipping.

:black_circle: Usergroups and usertags to make experts and mods/admins stand out?
-Administrators/Moderators
-Supporter (someone who donated? if you do go that avenue)
-Contributor (Someone who answers questions and helps out)

:black_circle: Questions/Answers: I really liked that format on the SW Forums. It saved having to scroll through an entire thread to find an answer, and having “questions” helped distinguishing what a thread is about. Discussion, question, poll, etc… Maybe you’ve already adressed this?

:black_circle: User profile formatting, maybe more options? Maybe I’m not looking at the right place but I’m not saying any way to view someone’s topics. I can view the posts they made, but not a list of the threads they created.

:black_circle:Youtube embedder : Pretty useful to be able to view videos from the forum rather then having to open the link

:black_circle:Double/triple post merger : Merge multiple consecutive posts from the same user. Saves space.

I never saw the usefulness of questions vs. discussions. Most people (like me) did it wrong anyway. But it was nice when the (correct) answer was right below the original post.

The only real usefulness I saw was the one you pointed out, but it’s still a rather useful feature when searching, it can save some time.

Perhaps here there will be people to turn discussions into questions and vice versa, and to appoint the correct answer if someone doesn’t do it. The issue with the SW Forum was that there was not much involvment on SW’s part.

  • I put in the Youtube extension yesterday, just paste a link
  • we have the ability to do groups and ranks, haven’t decided how to implement it yet
  • we have the Post Icons at the top of the post edit window

I’ll look into some of the rest. Might be able to make some of that happen.

Glad to join and to be here. Hope the masses follow from the SW Forum.

I’m gonna be heads-down for a few months but will be checking here regularly especially when the SW goes dark next month.

Hey mbiasotti , thanks for joining! Chime in any time! Hope you are well.

matt I’m not sure if this is something you can change on your side, but it would it be possible to have links open in tabs rather then in the current window?

If not, doesn’t matter. Just a personal preference

Clicking on a link with your scroll wheel instead of left mouse button will open the link in a new tab, but keep you on the current tab (I’m pretty sure that’s one of the many things I learned that from Deepak Gupta). That works on all sites (as far as I know).

I use CTRL+ Left Click which does the same thing, I just thought it was one of those little things that made reading forums easier.

That’s a good idea, I like that option too. I’m not sure what the options are in that direction, but I’ll have a look around. Thanks for the idea.
