Next Steps

This forum is an example of a great improvement, moving from a legacy platform to a newer system.

DS has probably invested too much money and resources into 3d experience so they had to use it for something. And probably the forum and many other things were just deployed with some dutch tape and later improved.

The forum started sort of working for me in the last 3 or 4 months, before even loading their pages was close to impossible for me.

It seems that a good part of the development is made in India, while the management seats somewhere in france or else with little grasp of the ongoing technical matters…

Yeah, more or less. Lately the I have used Vertex G4 Plant quite a lot. But in broader perspective I have also been on-site, so… well I don’t know where time will lead me but I’m open for new opportunities and this time I have had on the field has been interesting.

I think I have finally learnt the definition for pipe spool

Hi Matt. Will you still occasionally do Youtube videos or post software reviews here?

Yes, probably, if something gets me riled up enough.

FYI: The site has been available for public registration for about a week. Search engines have started indexing the site and it will show up in search engine results.

User count is still pretty low. Only about 200 registered users have returned since the mass email went out. Once the email limit resets, I’ll send out messages in smaller batches to former CADForum.net users to let them know that the site is now public if they want to have a look around without logging in.

I’m also probably going to set up a ‘development’ instance which is basically a completely private clone of this site to do testing with. Particularly to determine why Cloudfare sometimes causes the site to break (giant icons on login screen). I know which setting causes it, but it’s a setting I’d like to have enabled, so the test instance will help me figure that out without breaking the real site. I can also use it to try out plugins and such before deploying them.

Agreed. There are plenty of people whom i personally know who found their answers from the previous site by googling them.

Letting Google (and others) crawl through the site can only help.

I’m sure there is a broker out there ready to sell you that URL for a nominal service charge.
