Constraining a scaled sketch in SW 2017

I don’t think there is a way to constrain or control a scaled sketch other than create a block first. Are there any tools that give you this kind of control in newer versions of Solidworks?

Just to clarify, what I’m look for is a way to modify a scaled sketch.

So I’m assuming the sketch is no fully defined with dimensions and relations? How are you wanting to modify it?

You can do it if it’s a spline, but I think you’re right, you’ve got to use a block. I’m assuming you want to scale a defined sketch, but that’s not exactly what you said. You want to modify a scaled sketch. There is nothing that prevents you from modifying a scaled sketch. A sketch doesn’t remember that it has been scaled.

I’m not exactly sure what you’re trying to achieve. Scale a sketch?

If so you can do this (and other things) with Modify Sketch Command

Maybe a screenshot or two of what you are working with will help us understand exactly what you are trying to do?

I just got done typing explaining the lenthy process and accidentally closed the window and lost everything! Not going to do it again right now! :frowning: See attached image file.

Bottom line this is a reverse engineering project involving large sand castings that were originally created with physical templates (representing slices of the pattern/core) and hand drawings. They want to extract that information and create models.

Hopefully the image is attached.

I did forget to mention the basic process:

  1. Convert entities of existing surface edges
  2. Scale one selection of entities with one scale factor
  3. Scale the other entities with another scale factor.
  4. Scaled edges are then constrained using the a “fix” constraint.
