3DExperience is going away?

Priceless: SOLIDWORKS Product Name Changes.

This is a bit of a head scratcher.

Kind of scary to not see any mention of “Desktop SolidWorks” whatsoever.

I believe this one would be desktop solidworks:

This is the part that gets me…

Why would you want to distinguish the brand from the product? The product IS the brand. All the rest of the crap is not SOLIDWORKS!

Thanks Josh, just me casually being ADHD and skimming through things too quickly lol

does that mean that SolidWorks World will be back?

That suggests you can’t get Solidworks Premium without a cloud, but I can’t imagine that would be the case. I went to the main Solidworks website to see, but the new names aren’t implemented there yet.

For me, the 3D name can’t go away fast enough. At the last Solidworks World, the marketing director at the time told me that next year there would be more people at 3DExperience World, and they would be different people. I guess the different people didn’t show up.

My premium subscription has come with cloud services for the last two years, whether I wanted it or not.

I have to imagine “SOLIDWORKS without Cloud Services” is SOLIDWORKS Standard, assuming they didn’t create an even more neutered version.

It looks like “cloud services” was added to Solidworks in 2023.

Yeah, we are forced to pay for it for our new factory automation servers running SolidWorks Standard standalone licenses. There are no users logged into these servers running SolidWorks. However we were required to pay for it.

DS marketing should write for Saturday Night Live. It would be a win for everyone.

When I purchased my perpetual standard desktop license in 2023 It wasn’t $3995.00. I was forced to pay $8100.00 because they required to purchase 2 years of subscription and the cloud service - arghhh$&@$. From that point on - no long is SW $3995.00. Unfortunately if I had purchased just a few months earlier it would have been $4k. Bad timing on my part…

For anyone that has the “with cloud services” license, does anyone actually use the cloud part?

No.

That said, we do have a few Simulia licenses which is on the “platform” for more advanced simulation when needed. The files are uploaded as needed to run the sim. We have PDM and Windchill for file management so there’s not a need for basic cloud services.

I have no use for it, so I’ve never even investigated what it was or how to use it.

IT sales naming is going out of control at the point you do not understand anymore what an app, a program, a cloud service is going to do. And it is almost impossible to search on the web since the naming is a term so generic that billions of unrelated results come out.

Microsoft is so ahead I do not understand what I am supposed to click on anymore.

Remote desktop?

No, Windows app like the term “windows” is not a generic term enough

Office?

No, Microsoft (!) 365 (??) Copilot(:grimacing: )

We had “Solidworks desktop” and “Solidworks connected” and the cloud mess which is in fact CATIA V6 with a SW interface…which name I forgot. standard, professional, premium, ultimate…with cloud services!

No, we were forced to take the cloud services when we added a few licenses. I did the initial training with our VAR and told them at the time that we wouldn’t use it, didn’t want it and only bought it because we are forced to. Despite this they kept calling trying to get us to use it. I eventually had to very firmly, while still trying to be polite, tell them exactly what I thought of their platform!

I would guess that the natural uptake was poor so by forcing everyone to take the cloud services they could show the board/investors an uptake in users to justify the investment.

I am going to assume the 3DExperience name is being removed because it now has negative connotations.

Was there a time when it didn’t have negative connotations?

They should start adding SolidWorks AI Connect, SolidWorks AI Desktop, SolidWorks AI Connect Desktop.

SolidWorks Design Ultimate AI Augmented Connected

Whatever that means.

Big fancy words sells.
